Internship Programs
Brenda Jean's Sober Living Facility has internship partnerships with the following organizations:
California State University, Bakersfield - Psychology & Sociology
Bakersfield College - Human Services
UEI - Business Office Administration
Kern County Human Services - Employment Preparation Program
Mexican American Opportunity Foundation - Administrative Assistant, Kitchen Help, Security, Maintenance
While the first half of Spring 2020 Internships were in person, by mid March 2020 everything was shut down! As a result, Brenda Jean's developed the Virtual Internship Program to help assist those students who were unable to graduate due to not finishing their in person internships in the Spring 2020. In the Fall 2020 Brenda Jean's had 18 interns participating in the virtual live interactions with our residents via Zoom. By Spring 2021, that number increased to 34 virtual interns from CSUB, due to the addition of the Sociology Department. Previously we have been strictly working the CSUB Psychology Department. Brenda Jean's Sober Living Facility allocated a small portion of our Paycheck Protection Program funds to purchase 13 Kindle Fire Tablets with Zoom capabilities and we had to upgrade our internet services so that it could sustain normal business operations with 13 zoom meetings with the virtual interns at the same time. There were a total of 20 Zoom appointments each week, which was necessary for the virtual intern to satisfy their internship requirements.
